architecturalagencyIn all the time I've been researching home-based jobs, I have found quite a few companies across different industries that hire reservation agents. So today I thought making a list of all these companies might be a good idea for those people who are a.) OK with phone work from home, and b.) feel that a job like this would be right up their alley. Below is a list of industries and companies to consider if you think you'd like to be a work at home reservation agent.
Keep in mind that many of these positions are location-based and also not all of these companies are hiring right now.
JetBlue – They usually have full- and part-time positions open. You have to train on-site for a about a month prior to taking reservations from home. Pay is weekly around $10 an hour, and travel benefits are available to you if you get hired. They may hire in other areas, but at this time the reservation agent jobs are for people who live in or around Orlando, FL and Salt Lake City, UT. Type “Reservations” in the keyword box on the job search to find the available positions. Live Like You Are Rich has an interview with a person who works from home for this company if you're interested in learning more.
American Airlines – Must live within a 75 mile radius of their Southern Reservations office in Fort Worth, TX. Training is done on-site and lasts for 10 weeks, then you get to work from home. Pay starts out at $10.33 hourly with potential for raises (max is stated as being $17 hourly) the longer you work there. The site says they only have full-time positions. Type “work from home” in their job description box on the search page to see if they are hiring.
Delta – This well-known airline also has occasional opportunities for their reservation agents to work at home. However, they require working on-site for six months before they will allow you to work from home. They hire in a lot of different areas, but the digging I've done online hasn't turned up too many reservation agent openings lately on any of the popular job boards. Salary increases are annual and training is paid.
Rental Car Reservations
Enterprise – Read Enterprise Review – Enterprise hires work at home agents to take reservations for rental cars in a lot of different areas nationwide. Be sure to read the review we have of Enterprise because many readers have actually went to work for Enterprise recently and shared many details about their experiences in the comments. The pay might vary a little, but it looks like it's $12 hourly for most positions. The bilingual positions pay more at over $13 hourly.
Hertz – This is another car reservations company that lets their workers work from home sometimes. There was a news article posted about it in 2012 here. Some information I found on Glassdoor indicates that Hertz home-based agents make around $11 hourly and get paid weekly. Unfortunately, I'm not able to find the home-based jobs on their website. It could be that they don't have any available at the moment. If anyone knows how to find the open work from home positions at Hertz, please let me know.
Hilton Worldwide – Read Hilton Review – Most of you have probably heard of Hilton. They hire work at home reservation sales specialists quite regularly, I see their jobs posted often. It's location-based with the openings usually posted for people in or near Dallas, TX and Tampa, FL. Right now they also have an opening for military spouses doing reservation sales at Ft. Bragg, NC. You have to train on-site for seven weeks prior to working at home. The base pay is $10 hourly, but you can get bonuses on top of that.
Marriott – This is another popular hotel chain with opportunities to work from home. This one is location-based because they do require you train on-site for 90 days before work at home is an available option. However, there are Marriott hotels everywhere, so if you keep tabs on the openings, you may find a position near to where you live. Training is paid and there is potential to earn up to $12.75 hourly. To find these openings, do a search for “Customer Care Specialist” on the Marriott careers page.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts – This company has a work at home program with frequent openings. They require that you work on-site in one of their contact centers before they'll let you work at home. Their contact centers are located in Austin, Texas, Fall River MA, Wichita Kansas, St. Thomas, Canada, Cork, Ireland, Singapore, Tokyo, Japan, Guangzhou, China and Gurgaon, India. Not all of these offer the work at home program, but their site says that many of them do. A salary posting on Glassdoor indicates the hourly pay may be around $10.74, and you do get raises but they're not very much. Apparently the bonus is good if you can get it.
Omni Hotels – They have a “Flex @ Home” program where you can work at home taking reservations for their company. The company is based out of Nebraska, but from the job postings it is not clear whether or not you have to live in that area. They offer part-time positions with flexible scheduling. Sort the job postings using “Reservations” as the job type to see if they are hiring.
– This company hires customer support agents to help people book rooms and other travel-related things from home for a variety of different companies. They have openings in specific states, including Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Georgia, Oklahoma, Missouri, Michigan, Texas, California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii. It looks like they prefer to hire people who are bilingual. Rate of pay is not listed.
Best Western – This is another popular hotel chain with potential for telecommuting. Looking at their “Jobs” page, I don't see any positions available now, but you can always keep tabs on it. Like most of these companies, it's location-based because they want you to work on-site for four to six months before you can work from home. An old job posting I found for Best Western does not guarantee that work at home will be an option. It says it will become an option only if your performance is acceptable. When the position is open, it's listed as inbound sales reservation agent.
Carnival Cruise Lines – Read Carnival Review – This company hires work at home vacation planners occasionally. The pay is on the low side with some people claiming they earn just $8 hourly plus commission. With the commission, some people are able to turn this into about $1600 monthly. They do offer an attractive benefits package. This job is not always posted on the Carnival website and may occasionally be location-based (Florida).
– Similar to Carnival, this company hires work at home vacation planners. Pay may be around $10-$12 hourly plus you are eligible for different benefits. You will need to train on-site in most cases. They have locations in Mesa, AZ and also Miami, FL. When they are hiring, you can usually find their vacation planner job listings on Indeed.com.
Active Network – Read Active Network Review – This company hires people to work at home taking reservations for state parks, camping, etc. While it is location-based, they hire in most states nationwide. The pay is very low ($7.75 hourly), but in spite of that, many people who have worked for them have good things to say because the job is pretty easy and low-stress. It's seasonal work, but some people are able to work a full 12 months each year.
Looking For Even More Companies With Remote Reservation Rep Openings?
Another excellent resource for this is FlexJobs. Many well-known companies hiring reservation reps choose to post their listings here each time they have openings. This is one of the most reputable job sites on the web for people who are seeking primarily work at home jobs and/or flexible work. Also, FlexJobs is one of the only job search sites in existence that can practically guarantee you'll find no scams on their site. They are also the only fee-based ($14.95 a month or $50 a year) membership site for work at home jobs that I have used myself and would recommend.
I hope this helps if you're interested in taking reservations from home. Please comment below if you have any experience with the above companies or if you know of other good companies that hire you to take reservations from home.
